The Tenerife Cosmic Microwave Background Maps: Observations and First Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
The results of the Tenerife Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments are presented. These observations cover 5000 and 6500 square degrees on the sky at 10 and 15 GHz respectively centred around Dec.∼ +35. The experiments are sensitive to multipoles l = 10 − 30 which corresponds to the Sachs-Wolfe plateau of the CMB power spectra. The sensitivity of the results are ∼ 31 and ∼ 12 μK at 10 and 15 GHz respectively in a beam-size region (5 FWHM). The data at 15 GHz show clear detection of structure at high Galactic latitude; the results at 10 GHz are compatible with these, but at lower significance. A likelihood analysis of the 10 and 15 GHz data at high Galactic latitude, assuming a flat CMB band power spectra gives a signal ∆Tl = 30 +10 −8 μK (68 % C.L.). Including the possible contaminating effect due to the diffuse Galactic component, the CMB signal is ∆Tl = 30 +15 −11 μK. These values are highly stable against the Galactic cut chosen. Assuming a Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum for the primordial fluctuations, the above values imply an expected quadrupole QRMS−PS = 20 +10 −7 μK which confirms previous results from these experiments, and which are compatible with the COBE DMR data in the case of the standard inflationary Cold Dark Matter models. Cosmic microwave background map making with data between 10 and 90 GHz
We use data from the Tenerife 10, 15 and 33 GHz beamswitching experiments along with the COBE 53 and 90 GHz data to separate the cosmic microwave background (CMB) signal from the Galactic signal and create two maps at high Galactic latitude. The new multi-MEM technique is used to obtain the best reconstruction of the two channels. The two maps are presented and known features are identified wit...
متن کاملPolarized Microwave Radiation from Dust
Observations of cosmic microwave background in the range 10-90 GHz have revealed an anomalous foreground component well correlated with 12 μm, 60 μm and 100 μm emission from interstellar dust. As the recent cross-correlation analysis of WHAM Hα maps with the Tenerife 10 and 15 GHz maps supports an earlier conclusion that the emission does not arise from free-free radiation, the interstellar dus...
متن کاملA 33 GHz interferometer for CMB observations on Tenerife
We describe a new high sensitivity experiment for observing cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. The instrument is a 2-element interferometer operating at 33 GHz with a ∼3 GHz bandwidth. It is installed on the high and dry Teide Observatory site on Tenerife where successful beam-switching observations have been made at this frequency. Two realizations of the interferometer have been ...
متن کاملThe Very Small Array
The Very Small Array (VSA) is a fourteen-element interferometer designed to study the cosmic microwave background on angular scales of 2.4 to 0.2 degrees (angular multipoles l = 150 to 1800). It operates at frequencies between 26 and 36 GHz, with a bandwidth of 1.5 GHz, and is situated at the Teide Observatory, Tenerife. The instrument also incorporates a single-baseline interferometer, with la...
متن کاملMillimeter observation of the SZ effect in the Corona Borealis supercluster
We have observed the Corona Borealis supercluster with the Millimeter and Infrared Testa Grigia Observatory (MITO), located in the Italian Alps, at 143, 214, 272, and 353 GHz. We present a description of the measurements, data analysis , and results of the observations together with a comparison with observations performed at 33 GHz with the Very Small Array (VSA) interferometer situated at the...
